Trend is the only constant.

Be it fashion, art or culture. It is always the latest enforcements of someone whose face or net worth is valued enough to take up their persona. Today we are talking about a Birkin and tomorrow people are writing essays over how spending less on brands will help eliminate the capitalism. One day having an Eggs benedict in France is the shit, yet suddenly everyone’s a vegan.

Where does the problem lie?

Trend is just a politically correct word for herd culture, and while its inevitable, the rate of change today has increased tenfold. It’s no more about what someone prefers, personality type is an illusion and anyone’s only personality is the “latest trend”. While this springs from a belief of receiving appreciation in this counterfeit planet, it in fact has the contrary effect. Having clones walking around this world, authenticity is far from visible and that ultimately deteriorates the relationship of people not just with others but also from themselves.

What is so wrong with following a trend? Well, it’s all sweet and fun when it is limited to the newest fashion or the current Instagram trend. Trend, however, is consuming peoples mind more than ever and shaking everyone’s belief system.

Anyone’s favorite celebrity today has the power to influence their daily habits, their opinions on religion, spirituality, veganism, capitalism, climate change, the list goes on. Suddenly everyone has an opinion but do they really?

Having a backbone is underrated. Repeating patterns. Like a mask of delusion worn by each person to fool themselves into believing that they have principles while what the actual fact is that people will only have principles on things that are currently the cool topic of discussion.

This is not to suggest or state that everyone is a liar. But it’s definitely sad to see how in the name of fad culture, hollow cults are being formed. Where people are fighting for a cause but deep down, they do not really give a shit. And who’s to blame? And how can you separate authenticity from imitation?

It’s a sweet poison , forming an ocean of diluted opinions and only the loudest seems to win, whether it has substance or not.

Staying true to yourself is the only way out of this black hole.

performative luxury is tacky.

Luxury used to whisper. A classic watch ticking quietly. Old money sitting in silence. A rare craft you could feel, not just see. Now?...
