If I got a dollar for every time anyone used the word 'anxiety' or 'depression', I would be making a living off of it. In the era where depression has become increasingly common, what's surprising is the fact that privilege does not play a role here. Yes, I am talking about the entitled ones, those that you think are immune to depression, yet those who are the ones to respond immediately to such cues.
Moving back to the year 2020, where covid hit and brought the world under its curse, where all that everyone could do was reflect. Reflect upon their situations and circumstances, assess their moods and relationship. It's a no brainer that importance of mental health took a leap and both the online and offline platforms got crowded with mental health institutions.
Although it was needed and brought a positive change in the monopoly of business, until when it started creating a thought loop.
Are people scared now? How on earth is it so common despite the growing network of people who you can reach out to at any given point of time? You're right, I am talking about the online therapists. With more people having access to information, there is also an access to misinformation. The root cause of this phenomenon. Depression, being one of the most serious health conditions is now being reduced to minor inconveniences and that can cause a major setback in the upcoming generation. Today something as simple as a mood swing can be confused with depression, introverts have self-diagnosed anxiety, even feelings of boredom and laziness are now taken seriously, causing havoc to anyone and every one's mental health.
I am not minimising trauma and pain, but what I truly believe can help this deranged society is to think before assuming. A trauma can be shared but its not necessarily the same, and while its healthy to find relatable content, people to share your thoughts with and people you believe would give you the best of advice, but they are still people. Everyone is coming and talking from their experience and while it is good to resort to their support, take a step back before buying into anything they have to say for your mental health. Your adversities make you, what works for you might not work for anyone else. A minor inconvenience is not depression, but a constant brooding over that thought might eventually cause you to be in fact depressed.
Being woke also means knowing what to believe.
